Indeed. I think this particular theory is another example of the "magic words" source of bunk. Titanium dioxide was suggested as "what they are spraying" many years ago by William Thomas. "Nano" is always something evil and nasty. "Fibers" are linked to Morgellons, which is basically a sister theory to chemtrails. So when you do a Google search for "Titanium dioxide-coated nanofibers", then a giant lightbulb must light up.

Carbon black might have been better. You can link it into global warming, there's carbon in exhaust emissions and black is just naturally evil.

I really don't know how to deal with these people. It's just "That's out of the ordinary, it must be (INSERT CURRENT CONSPIRACY HERE)," over and over again.

I've been challenging them on twitter for a week, and have noticed calls in many of the vids including this one for 'verifiable facts'. That alone is a dead giveaway, even the believers know that the people around them are peddling bunk.

A good line today was "You only used one website for your debunking information, whereas I used several to link my claims," (ergo my evidence is more legitimate than yours). Against that level of intellect I am entirely powerless.

I'm definitely more afraid these days, having dealt with the dangerously unbalanced on more than one occasion.

Yeah, especially since it's often not out of the ordinary at all. That guy in the links scombrid posted is taking lots of videos of leaf spot fungal infections that are common and normal, especially late in the season, and generally of little consequence to the health of the plant.

If its just a very small number of true believers, then while it might seem like a easy subject to debunk, you might end up just wasting time with people who cannot be reasoned with, and who are not really recruiting others.

You also run the risk of being perceived as focussing on the "crazy" in order to discredit the "real" theories. Of course this interpretation will vary greatly by individual.

Using twitter, I'm essentially jumping into conversations between people who are trying to recruit others, or spread new information to others. That really annoys believers, which unfortunately gets you blocked, as does my Twitter list of "People who ignore evidence, or won't provide any for their claims,"
