Sir,
I actually just had a quick question, but first a few comments. I really appreciate your sight. I like the way you explain what other folks make into nonsense.
I first contacted you about a circular contrail that was seen over Detroit a couple of years ago. I was amazed over the sheer nonsense that was made of it in Detroit, But your site explained it to me easily. About a month ago I saw a strange black contrail that again when I searched your site explained to me that what I saw was a shadow.
My question relates to an event that occurred on a evening approx 7:30 PM in the spring or fall off 1980. I was driving home from a class and I was stopped at a traffic light. I saw the moon on the horizon behind the wires of the traffic light, the wires actually crossed my field of vision with the moon so it appeared that I saw the moon with several black lines in it caused by the wires, normal. As I drove away I looked at the moon again and was surprised to see a sharp black line in it that appeared just like a wire from a traffic light like when I was stopped. {Well I'll tell you the truth I had 3 passengers and we were going home after classes at a trade school, 4 19 - 21 yr old males and we all under the influence of a smoked illegal substance at the time} After still seeing the same site for about a quarter mile I asked my passengers to look at the moon and they all saw the same thing. You can imagine the response, Like wow man a line in the moon, dude it's a sign etc. It stayed sharp and clear for about a mile then slowly faded to a clear bright large normal moon on the horizon.
I dropped every one off but the sight has always stayed with me. Do you think that this was a shadow, have you heard of this before?
Thanks for your time and site,
Jeff Thomas [email protected]
Jeff, that's an interesting account. I think it's most likely it was a contrail. There's nothing that could cast a linear shadow on the moon, so it must have been a contrail that crossed in front of the moon. Something like this, but with the moon lower, so the contrail would be smaller, and thinner looking.
