Ah, that is an important distinction. But where are these greenhouses? I've looked on Google Mps, and searched with OverpassTurbo but can only find one. Admittedly I accept that this was nearly 40 years ago, but we should be able to pin their location down.

Fox News published a story back in February saying that The National Weather Service have captured a video of a "swarm of meteors" towards the east at dawn in Kansas. Looks more like deployed starlink flares to me. Maybe they didn't realise the video was a timelapse...

Mapped for reference. They talk of two helicopters, a UNC (Univeristy of North Carolina Hosptial) over Fearrington at 2200ft and an AirLife at 2800 ft coming up from Sanford. Checking FlightRadar24 that suggest the time of the video is approx 06:05 AM

Yeah, I see what you mean. The way I rationalise this is that the satellites may be at same (similar) altitude but at a different distance away from the observer. Our depth perception is confused by the point source of light they they appear as - so your brain thinks they are all the same...

Update: Going back to the image of the 'flashing lights', it appears that in the video there two types of flashing light - a lot that are synchronised with a flash rate of abut 0.5 Hz (after accounting for the sped up video at 4x normal speed) , and another set collection of unsynchronised...
