    View across Utah Lake

The amount of shimmering and heat haze in that video makes accurate measurement impossible. Clearly there is lots of refraction and distortion going on there. That's why curvature observations are much better done using larger, more distant objects, like islands or mountains. That way, the...

2008 UFO Footage From Kumburgaz, Turkey

There's some discussion here: http://forgetomori.com/2010/ufos/kumburgaz-turkey-ufo-yacht-window-reflections/ Archived: https://web.archive.org/web/20190305025539/http://forgetomori.com/2010/ufos/kumburgaz-turkey-ufo-yacht-window-reflections/ It suggests that some of the images could be...

2008 UFO Footage From Kumburgaz, Turkey

What is the background to the video? It seems to be lots of unrelated clips from different dates. This, for instance, looks to be a light from a building or vehicle on top of distant hills.

Dr. Kirkby 2009 CERN presentation: "Clouds Seeded by Jets" [Misunderstanding by Chemtrail Theorists]

The video in the post above has been deleted. Here is another copy of the presentation, which I will edit into the post: Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiNg4equ0fM The relevant quote comes at 1:07. There's plenty of evidence that large regions of the climate are lacking sufficient...

Debunked: Isle of Man from Blackpool at water level proves flat earth [refraction]

The temperature at Blackpool airport at 6pm BST was 26.5C (79.7F) at 6pm BST on June 29, which is quite unusually warm for the time of day and location...

A pair of “Morse code” contrails this morning (the placement of the aerials was coincidental!)

Stand Up to Detect the Curve of the Earth

If anyone has a subscription to marinetraffic.com they could probably ID the ship and get its exact location. Unfortuntately, unlike Planefinder, it doesn't do historical playback free of charge.

How to calculate the visible fraction of the Earth [e.g. 1972 Blue Marble, Apollo 17]

The only limit, really, is how wide-angle your lens is. If you have a lens that can capture more than 180 degrees of view then you can see the Earth "as a ball" from the top of a tall building, and nobody would pretend that you can see the whole Earth, even from the top of the tallest building...

Explained: Washington State Island "Mystery missile" - Helicopter

At the time of the photo the sun was still 10 degrees below the horizon (sunrise was not until 5.11am). I don't think the sun could catch a contrail that early in the morning.

Claim: magnetic dust on cars proves chemtrail fallout

I thought chemtrail fallout was meant to be aluminium? Aluminium isn't magnetic.

Explained: Washington State Island "Mystery missile" - Helicopter

My assumption was that is the position of the helicopter at the start of the exposure: it is already in the field of view at the time the exposure begins. So the searchlight never covers that part of the frame at all.

Explained: Washington State Island "Mystery missile" - Helicopter

It's at the top, and the bottom, and all the way along the length of the line (although at the far end it is hidden in the clouds). It's a long exposure, so the trail marks out the distance it has travelled in that time. My interpretation of the grey "rocket" is that it's the trail of a fainter...

Explained: Washington State Island "Mystery missile" - Helicopter

The trail is basically just a roughly vertical line on the photo. Which direction it is "pointing" depends entirely on which end you treat as the front/top. This is the end at the top of the photo, which is larger and appears to be closer to the camera: You can either visualise that as a...

Explained: Washington State Island "Mystery missile" - Helicopter

It looks as though there is a reddish tint to the left of the trail, which could add weight to the idea that it is flying away from the camera rather than towards it. (Or it could just be chromatic aberration from the camera lens.) Also if you assume that the bright light is at the front of the...

Debunked: View of Blue Ridge Mountains impossible on spherical earth

AFAIK Peakfinder uses the STRM (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission) elevation data, which is free and covers almost the whole planet, but is not as accurate as proper surveying techniques. The horizontal resolution is about 30 metres between points (and until recently more like 90 metres outside...

Claim: zooming in on setting sun proves flat earth

A simple way to disprove this would be to put a dark filter over the lens so that the sun is only visible as a disc, and then zoom in. If you do it when the sun is right on the horizon then you will still be able to see where the horizon is. If the Flat Earth claim was correct, then zooming in...
