And as we know who took the photo, surely it must be possible to find out the date it was taken. That image must have been circulated widely at the time. Might be worth a search of newspapers around October 2001, if contacting the photographer doesn't work.

This image appears to have been scanned from a newspaper or magazine. There are screening dots visible (easiest to see eg in the area of smoke to the right of the man in the centre). Working out where it was published would be a good start.

Do you know the date of the photo? I can't find it on any press or newswire sites. Finding the original source would be a great first step as then it would be easier to search photos around that date.

Not sure what you mean - that the effect lnmoving objects would be a giveaway? I suppose you could work around it by controlling the speed of objects or using motion blur etc. I've noticed the "wagon wheel" effect with the naked eye before, with no special set-up other than an electric LED...

Are you sure you have the right plane there? I don't see that flight on Planefinder, but I do see these two: That's SU107 and WN5370. The heights seem off for your photo though. I don't see WN329 going anywhere near Bakersfield at that time.

The image is just one of several that show the sun and the associated flares. If you look at the thumbnails on Flickr you can see that a series of photos was taken to make a panorama. The sun was so bright that lens flare was even visible on photos with the sun well out of shot...

It certainly demonstrates curvature. My response would be to get the flat Earth believer to draw a diagram of how he or she imagines the light rays to be bending, and why.
