How to Take a Photo of the Curve of the Horizon

Nitpick: the circle of the horizon, by definition, is equidistant from the observer all the way round. I assume you meant “furthest away in the direction you are looking at a given time”.

How to Take a Photo of the Curve of the Horizon

The problem with this simple analogy is of course that Flat Earthers will then say "So you mean the Earth is flat like a coin?" and we're back where we started! I'm trying to think of a common object that is shaped like a very flat circular dome, like the section of the Earth's surface above the...

Stand Up to Detect the Curve of the Earth

Excuse the poor quality photos (maximum zoom on an iPhone) but here are a couple of pics that demonstrate this effect which I took in Iceland. Here the difference was not even standing up, but simply raising the phone above my head while I sat in a hot pool on the beach! Holding camera low...

Views of Toronto from Hamilton and Fort Niagara Illustrate Earth's Curvature

On that thread he says Stoney Creek. Which is right next door anyway.

Explained: Why a Spirit Level on a Plane Does Not Show Curvature "Corrections"

In the absence of weather systems they would be, but there's up to a ~100mb range between the highest and lowest sea-level pressures encountered in the atmosphere, which means that a given flight level will vary in actual altitude above the ground by a couple of thousand feet or more depending...

Explained: Why a Spirit Level on a Plane Does Not Show Curvature "Corrections"

I was flying back from holiday last weekend and had my Bluetooth GPS antenna connected to my phone so I could see where we were (it's a lot more accurate than the built-in GPS, especially since Apple ruined the GPS capabilities of iPhones, but I digress...). The GPS altitude - which of course is...

    Is this a cosmic ray?

Also, a typical camera exposure is of the order of 1/100th of a second (or less in bright light), so if you assume the sensor is 1 square centimetre then even at 1 per minute then you'd only be looking at a one in several thousand chance of a particle passing through a given photograph. And...

Clinton's Flights on Epstein's Plane, the "Lolita Express", did not go to the Island

I think the last two names are Janice and Jessica. Then squeezed in to the right is "Pete Rathgeb + 6 pax". The only one I can't make out is the one before Doug Bands. This page claims it is "MCXG": "MC XG – Stands for “Royalty” of XG Co., Ltd. Believed to be Wang Zhenhua as it is an older sub...

    Is this a cosmic ray?

I have a FR24 subscription (which I forgot I was still paying for!) and there is nothing I can see in the area. This is the nearest aircraft, assuming Mick has the time zone right, and it doesn't fit with the track at all.

    Is this a cosmic ray?

That second photo looks rather similar to me. Although the cloud in the OP looks possibly too thick for this to be the explanation? One thing I would say regarding the possibility of a cosmic ray strike in exactly the right plane being “vanishingly small” as @Amber Robot said: well even if it...

Edited Photo of Ghislaine Maxwell at In-N-Out

I'm still really puzzled by this dark area between her left arm and the table umbrella pole. The perspective seems totally off, as it goes from being behind her body (which is obviously behind the tabletop) to obscuring part of the book on which she is resting her elbow. Edit... unless it is...

Edited Photo of Ghislaine Maxwell at In-N-Out

You would think there must be some other photos taken at this location around the same time on social media showing that poster. I've looked on Instagram and Twitter but no luck so far.

Russian ammo depot explosion near Achinsk, Krasnoyarsk

The videos from Achinsk were more like 13km (8 miles) away, possibly 15km if I am correct on the location of the second video. This is backed up by the time it takes for the sound of the explosion to reach the camera, as one comment on YouTube points out:

Russian ammo depot explosion near Achinsk, Krasnoyarsk

Geolocating the footage using the prominent buildings and main road: The highlighted street is Ulitsa Kravchenko. Building 2, and the long low blocks near it, are here: So the photo with the family looking on was taken from somewhere in the blue circle on the hill: (The...

Russian ammo depot explosion near Achinsk, Krasnoyarsk

I'm confused: this picture seems to be taken at night (not just an exposure issue: there are clearly lights from buildings in the foreground) whereas the arms depot explosion happened during the daytime. Or was there more than one explosion?

Explained: The "Many Faces" of Patrick Crusius, the El Paso Shooter

That looks rather similar to the Facebook selfie pic (labelled as 8chan in the OP) - in both of the "selfie" pictures his nose looks much more prominent than it does in photos taken from a greater distance with normal cameras. It's the same effect.

Explained: The "Many Faces" of Patrick Crusius, the El Paso Shooter

The 8chan profile photo looks like it was taken with the front-facing "selfie camera" on a phone (or possibly a close up on a computer webcam). As most people who have used the front-facing camera on their phone know, it's not very flattering. The wide-angle lens and close-up viewpoint distorts...

Debunked: Trees being cut down "because they block 5G" (tree replacement in Belgium)

So does anybody know where Geraint Davies got the idea that trees are being cut down en masse "around Swindon"? I can't find anything about this, and, as Seema Kennedy points out, the government has committed to planting more trees. The only news stories I can find from the Swindon area relate...

    Strange Light Caught On Camera

The sprinkler spraying towards the camera would certainly suggest that. @ParanormalInSeattle Is there any footage available from before the start of this clip, or is this the start of it? This video shows a vaguely similar kind of square shape from a water drop on the lens. Source...
