Photos of Clouds and Skies (That you took yourself)

Just spotted this distrail. And about eight minutes later:

    Asymmetric Contrail

Don't you mean "to the right"? Or "to the left from the observer's viewpoint"? It seems pretty clear that the right edge (left on the photo) of the sunlit trail is brighter, suggesting that it is casting a shadow on the other trail.

Travel Firm's Cloud Seeding Stunt Attracts Chemtrailers

This story seems to have had quite an inpact, unfortunately. Just the latest of many sightings...

Bumblebee Pupae Contain High Levels of Aluminium

[emphasis added] Well, at least Exley doesn't seem to be attempting to invoke chemtrails. I did wonder if that was his motive.

But WMI is one of the firms often cited as "the culprits"!

The one Murphy is holding says "Brinkmann". He bought off-brand :)

This trap would normally be connected to a rotary evaporator - you use the rotary evaporator to boil off the solvent and this trap collects the solvent, leaving whatever was dissolved in the rotavap flask. My guess is that he is going to collect a load of dust from the air using a filter or...

"An Unconventional Shade of Grey" - Michael J. Murphy new Film

I'm a bit puzzled by this flask. It is a dry ice condenser trap. I don't see how it would be any use for trying to collect particulates from the air. Available on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Brinkman-dry-ice-vacuum-trap-condenser-ball-reservoir-dewar-with-bottom-valve-/191669714207? This...

    Altitude and contrail persistence

This is the data from Herstmonceux (about 60 miles southeast) for 00Z today, which is about 18 hours before the photo was taken. FL450 is equivalent to 150 millibars. This sounding would suggest the highest humidity (in the region above 300mb) is at around the 190 millibar level. Here is...

    Altitude and contrail persistence

And here is a photo taken approximately 10 minutes after the one above, showing the trail persistence (it appears to have barely moved in 10 minutes, I think because the upper-level wind is almost parallel to the trail).

    Altitude and contrail persistence

Here are the FR24 screenshots. And confirmation of the Gulfstream registration from Planefinder.net, which tends to have more information for private aircraft than FR24 does.

    Altitude and contrail persistence

Looking out of my window around sunset this evening I noticed a succession of planes lining up from the west, all with short contrails except one which was leaving a lengthy persistent trail. I thought it would make quite a good illustration of how "adjacent" flights can be at very different...

Explained: UFO CAPTURED In Airplane above the clouds! WHAT IS THIS? [Air France 747]

I took a series of photos that are very similar to that video from a flight back in March: Again the apparent change in direction is just down to the aircraft I was on flying roughly perpendicular to that one, while the aircraft on the right is flying roughly parallel to my flight.

"An Unconventional Shade of Grey" - Michael J. Murphy new Film

Day 2 and he points at a contrail and "estimates" that it is at 8,000 to 10,000 feet: "definitely within our range". You would think that when he flies up there and it's still not seemingly getting any closer he would start to question his ideas, but no...

Photos of Planes and Contrails (That you took yourself)

One of the highest contrails I've seen for a while: a Gulfstream at just under 45,000 feet. (And a sundog.) And some more trails and shadows a few minutes later. Edit: Planefinder had more info on the Gulfstream. It was en route from Pittsburgh to Geneva. It's owned by PPG Industries, a...

And he's in a Piper Saratoga II HP, which has a ceiling of 20,000 feet. I guarantee he got nowhere near those contrails.

    Debunked: Chemtrail "Chembows" [Solar Halos]

Incidentally, a little biographical snippet... I've just been doing a bit of digging and I'm pretty certain that the U. V. Bogaerde who wrote that first letter is one Ulric Van den Bogaerde, the father of Derek Van den Bogaerde — better known as Dirk Bogarde! The family had a home in Clayton...

    Debunked: Chemtrail "Chembows" [Solar Halos]

Well, I have a paid subscription to the Gale database which includes The Times. There's no free online access. But public libraries ought to have them on microfiche. Those are all from the letters page, and all from August 1944. I don't think I made a note of the publication dates (I took those...
