    The Pentyrch UFO Encounter

I'm from the UK she feels somewhat outside of the normal population to me, COVID hoax belief is much less prevalent here and vaccine take-up is very high.

GoFast : is the background moving relatively to the movement of the jet ? Or the camera only ?

Yeah I think you're possibly right Lehto not having used ATFLIR specifically making some assumptions about it being in AG mode and RNG being TGT. The possibility still remains that its angle rate ranging that I can find some references to but no full description of. One thing that is interesting...

GoFast : is the background moving relatively to the movement of the jet ? Or the camera only ?

In the manuals when RNG is used on displays it always seems to refer to a range to a RADAR track. When TGT is used it refers to a range to a point on the ground or a nav point. In Go Fast RNG appears when the target track is acquired as does VC the format is similar to the way RADAR targets...

GoFast : is the background moving relatively to the movement of the jet ? Or the camera only ?

From NAV mode manual "designated points are identified by TGT" It's the range to the nav point. 3.5 Target (TGT) Steering Mode Target Steering (TGT) steering mode is available when a designation exists

GoFast : is the background moving relatively to the movement of the jet ? Or the camera only ?

I want to make this 100% clear many more advanced features of the F/18s tracking systems are missing from DCS, not just ATFLIR features but other linked systems.

GoFast : is the background moving relatively to the movement of the jet ? Or the camera only ?

No I mean in Go Fast the range is from RADAR using correlation with the ATLFLIR LOS and a RADAR track, this feature is not simulated DCS, DCS does not have a full simulation of the systems the F/18 has regarding sensor fusion.

GoFast : is the background moving relatively to the movement of the jet ? Or the camera only ?

TGT is listed as slant range to target in AG mode I assume unless the laser is used for ranging this is calculated from the basic trig based on altitude above ground and downward angle of the system.

GoFast : is the background moving relatively to the movement of the jet ? Or the camera only ?

What the various modes and displays mean is mostly described in the manual I've linked a few times. There's no doubt they are in AA mode as far as I'm concerned I'd need some sort of documentation / evidence to the contrary. The ATFLIR SIM is very new and not full featured, the people making...

GoFast : is the background moving relatively to the movement of the jet ? Or the camera only ?

Hey no worries it's great when someone comes in and checks our working and I'm sure your learned some useful skills.

GoFast : is the background moving relatively to the movement of the jet ? Or the camera only ?

The BST SLAVE and L+S options only show in A/A mode. I understand you have the sim and are trying it out which is great but it might help if you read the manual for it because it's easy to get terms mixed up. As far as I can determining the draw a box grab mode shown in go fast is not...

GoFast : is the background moving relatively to the movement of the jet ? Or the camera only ?

In Go Fast the ATFLIR is in A/A mode which does not do snowplow as far as I can tell. It does Inertial LOS, this might be the same as Snowplow mode but it's not called that in the manual...

GoFast : is the background moving relatively to the movement of the jet ? Or the camera only ?

It's great that you were able to work through this yourself and confirm what was discovered here a few years back when we 1st got Go Fast and the TTSA analysis.

Fravor's Hypersonic UFO observation. Parallax Illusion? Comparing Accounts

Sub could be there making the disturbance but unrelated to the test, just a co-incidence with a few unrelated events that have been assume to be related.

F-16 Pilot- Chris Lehto analyses Gimbal footage

As far as I can tell the ATFLIR in A/A mode is mostly for visually identifying planes are what you think they are before you launch a missile under some rules of engagement it's a requirement.

Gimbal distance and Speed Range Estimates using Lines of Bearing and/or DCS

I think it will be interesting to see what happens, but relying on the pod simulation to emulate reality to that level should be done carefully. I'm kind of interested in what blind spots the pod has. Reading around makes me think it's main use is for ground target designation for laser guided...

F-16 Pilot- Chris Lehto analyses Gimbal footage

One theory is that GO FAST and GIMBAL both show some possible scenarios where an operator might make an error or misinterpret the footage and are named after that, short clips that might be used for training or feedback to the pilots or engineers. GIMBAL might show an artefact of the GIMBAL...

F-16 Pilot Chris Lehto's Interpretation of the GoFast footage [Focus, Parallax, Inaccurate Range]

If 10 waves go by in a second it matters if they are 1 foot waves or 10 foot waves.

F-16 Pilot Chris Lehto's Interpretation of the GoFast footage [Focus, Parallax, Inaccurate Range]

A few factors could make the ocean appear to move slower or faster in a sim than in the actual video Wave size i.e. the size of the ocean surface texture features, wind blown waves, causing an apparent speeding up or slowing down of the sea surface, the FOV of the camera etc.

Gimbal distance and Speed Range Estimates using Lines of Bearing and/or DCS

As far as I can tell the currently simulated ATFLIR auto track just points the ATFLIR to the object as it "knows" the actual angle so it's not really tracking. It's also not simulating a IR picture, these features are pretty hard to implement in a realistic fashion, you'd have to simulate IR...
