Sphere, Acorn, Metallic Blimp - Three iPhone Photos From an F-18 via Mystery Wire

That's a confusing article, I guess that author has access to the original photos? But it looks like the screenshot with the EXIF for the "acorn" object actually shows The Debrief's older photo.

Explained: UFO Filmed With Telescope [Loon Balloon]

This looks like another Loon example, from New South Wales in 2014 - the sunset makes it look even more unusual:

Sphere, Acorn, Metallic Blimp - Three iPhone Photos From an F-18 via Mystery Wire

This "acorn" photo is taken slightly before the notorious "Batman balloon" pic published last year. Maybe this puts some constraints on the size, using Mick's "zipby" simulation? Hopefully they'll publish the original with the EXIF data eventually, which will give the time delta between the...

How Do You Stage UFO Photos and Videos? Let us Count the Ways.

Building miniatures is another possibility, you still need some way to suspend your object but could use fake trees in the foreground to give a false impression of scale. Around 4:30 here - Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIF8JMefC0I&t=260 (In fact there's another technique going on in...

A "cruise missile type of thing" spotted by AA2292

Tyler Rogoway has lodged FOIA requests with the FAA, which are pending. Doesn't seem like there will be any news in the meantime.

Debunked: Hovering Ship "Fata Morgana" or "Mirage" [False Horizon]

This twitter user explains these phenomena as inferior mirages (a few tweets into the thread): Source: https://twitter.com/Rainmaker1973/status/1113055975102185472

Debunked: Atmospheric pressure on Mars is 9 PSI, not 0.09 PSI as claimed by NASA

I think I remember reading somewhere that Mars's sky is pinkish during the day, and becomes bluish during twilight - the opposite of Earth - due to the difference between Mie and Rayleigh scattering. Thanks all for the wide ranging collection of counter evidence in this thread. What a strange...

Debunked: Atmospheric pressure on Mars is 9 PSI, not 0.09 PSI as claimed by NASA

Before the Viking spacecraft landed on Mars in 1976, it was thought that the atmospheric pressure of Mars was somewhere between 0.4 PSI and 4.4 PSI. When the Viking spacecraft landed, the pressure sensor appeared to indicate that the atmospheric pressure on the surface of Mars was 0.09 PSI...

'UFO' video just shows contrail formation?

This old video has popped up again in UFO circles: There are some claims that the white objects are CGI, but perhaps they're just misidentified contrails, lit in an unusual way by the low sun?

A "cruise missile type of thing" spotted by AA2292

Generating aerodynamic lift is pretty much the defining feature of cruise missiles, they're "flying bombs".

Avionics System Technician Discusses FLIR Targeting Pod's Tracking and Glare

Fair enough - thanks. Shame he didn't want to go on-the-record.

Avionics System Technician Discusses FLIR Targeting Pod's Tracking and Glare

Mick, just for due diligence as it's not explicitly mentioned - did 'Kurt' provide you with evidence of his credentials, or were you able to independently verify his identity and background in some way?

A "cruise missile type of thing" spotted by AA2292

N738RJ should have been well within TCAS coverage, but the question from the pilot doesn't seem phrased as it would have been if they'd seen another plane's transponder info on their screen during the event. And they apparently had eight minutes to check the screen.

A "cruise missile type of thing" spotted by AA2292

They didn't get a reply, there was other radio traffic so it's not clear if ATC heard him.

A "cruise missile type of thing" spotted by AA2292

The nature of the "do you have any targets up here?" enquiry also suggests that nothing was showing up on AA2292's TCAS, so the mystery object didn't have an ADS-B transponder active. So it would make sense that it can't be found on FlightRadar etc. either.

A "cruise missile type of thing" spotted by AA2292

If the timestamps are right, it doesn't seem likely that the pilot would have waited eight or nine minutes before contacting ATC. I downloaded the full hour-plus long audio file, assuming it's full of course and altitude instructions from ATC, which could then be cross-checked with the...

Aguadilla Infrared Footage of 'UFOs' - Probably Hot Air Wedding Lanterns

Yeah I tried a few of their points and found some of their co-ords don't even put the object in the frame at the supposed timestamp. Interestingly the last few are on the 2204 focal length, so a larger number of pixels are covered by the object. Unfortunately all of the plottable SCU points are...

Aguadilla Infrared Footage of 'UFOs' - Probably Hot Air Wedding Lanterns

Quick example using this frame, corresponding to ACFT2 / TGT2 in the KML: Horizontal distance to intercept the model path is 2102 m: Height where camera vector intersects the path is 270 m: Aircraft height is 1807ft or 550.8 m, and object pixel width is... well... 13-ish? Maybe 12...

Aguadilla Infrared Footage of 'UFOs' - Probably Hot Air Wedding Lanterns

That's the idea, yes. The distance from the camera to the object is the 'adjacent' side on a right-angle triangle where the 'opposite' is the object's unknown width. At the 675mm focal length, the angle theta can be found by counting the object's pixel width and multiplying by (1.09/704). (Since...
