Demonstrating the Curve of the Earth with observations of Beachy Head from Worthing

How do the figures look? I.e., distances and elevations, including variations in the tide?

    Earth's Curve Calculator

I was going to look at that in the video, but the video posted seems to be a collection of a great many different observations, experiments, and ideas. Is that the right video? Or is the observation you referred to at a specific point?

    Earth's Curve Calculator

Height above the water of the lake will suffice. It's true that you're slightly further away from the centre of the Earth, and that your radius will likely vary from the mean, but it doesn't make a significant difference. You can vary radius if you click the 'advanced' box, and you can find...

Demonstrating the Curve of the Earth with observations of Beachy Head from Worthing

Sure you can - depending on your elevation, and how close to the wall the thing you want/are then able to see is. Over here, a garden has grass and flowers in it, while a yard is cement or brick. A lawn is just grass. Very good, that. :)

Demonstrating the Curve of the Earth with observations of Beachy Head from Worthing

That's a real head-scratcher: that a supposedly educated man would not see the difference between moving the camera closer and zooming. Perhaps a good way to demonstrate the error there: I take a picture of a wall and zoom in on it. I can't see what's behind the wall. But if I move my camera...

How to test if Satellites are real

Back in 2009, DISH Network had a camera pointed at Earth that broadcast live images on channel 212. Here's a timelapse video somebody put together: Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hc1Nx6Ce7IY (Another one here.) This is just the sort of thing space deniers have long been asking for...

What books are you reading ? (conspiracy related, science, etc...)

Just started 'The Science Delusion' by Rupert Sheldrake. I'm not far in but I'm already struck by some of the language, such as: Since the nineteenth century, millions of people have been converted to a materialistic worldview [by science], even though they know very little about science itself...

Demonstrating the Curve of the Earth with observations of Beachy Head from Worthing

Would you be able to do a slide comparison of this shot, with Seaford Head also in the picture? I think that would show what's going on really well.

Debunked: Neil deGrasse Tyson : "That Stuff is Flat"

Not so easy to tell those two apart: it's quite a good 'Spot the Difference' game. Most immediate thing I see is the full jump has an American flag along the trim at the bottom of the pod.

    Nathan Oakley's Flat Earth "Debates".

What Stunja does with that document is a superb demonstration of cherry-picking. For example, he glosses over passages such as: An excellent example of the development of science and the scientific method is the demise of the geocentric view of the solar system. With the application of...

    Using railways to view curvature

How would you tell the difference between curvature and incline?

Debunked: Neil deGrasse Tyson : "That Stuff is Flat"

It would be interesting to see the horizon for this shot replicated with Walter Bislin's simulator. I'll put it on my to-do list, unless someone beats me to it.

Debunked: Neil deGrasse Tyson : "That Stuff is Flat"

K1 is the 22nd highest. They also both got the countries completely wrong. ;) On the subject of Baumgartner's two jumps, I've seen these conflated and presented as evidence of hoaxery, such as in this photo: Source: www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5JysrzeqXk That's maybe the easiest way to tell the...

    TFTRH #3 & #4 - Stian Arnesen, 9/11, Crop Circles, and Debunkers

Enjoyed that chat: I especially liked the 'standing on a can' explanation - as, it appeared, did Stian. I might have added to his question "why don't scientists look into conspiracy theories properly, why do they just dismiss them?" by mentioning that they have jobs, other things to do...

    Nathan Oakley's Flat Earth "Debates".

The YouTube channel it was on got taken down, unfortunately. A lot of Oakley's stuff comes from his associate, John Stunja, aka 'Quantum Eraser'. He takes it from various textbooks and papers, which can usually be found by googling certain phrases he presents in his arguments (they're usually in...

"Golden Orb" Daytime Reflective Sphere UFOs in Photos

I notice that the orb isn't going exactly 'up and down', and also that the timing between each picture is around one second. I wonder where it was when the third picture was taken?

Help with a debate about curvature and distance calculations

The angular size is "virtually the same" - but he's zoomed in on it. Perhaps the easiest way to think of it is to imagine yourself taking a photo of a person say twenty feet away. Now zoom in on them. Same person. Same distance. Same calculable angular size. But they will appear larger in the...

Full-Disk HD Images of the Earth from Satellites

How to Take a Photo of the Curve of the Horizon

How to Take a Photo of the Curve of the Horizon

Did you miss the posts above (#46 and #49), that show that the curve of the horizon is also noticeable before the image is compressed?
