I am not sure what you mean.. Light pillars are caused by ice crystals, where their shape is leading to the effect seen. It does not matter if the object is obscured or not, as long as the angle between source-observer is just right. Here is a nice link about atmospheric optical phenomena...

Agreed, some vignetting in the corners, okay, but not a whole black circle.. :D I am too lazy to go through all the comments, but I vaguely remember the zoom lens he used was not the same brand as the video recorder.

The vignetting visible (wide shot) is also odd. Normally a lens is optimized/designed such, that there is no vignetting. Perhaps it is not the same make/model lens that fits on the camera he used? That can/could also lead to imaging issues.

@flarkey After watching the videos again, I have not actually seen a direct zoom from close to far. This means I cannot use the argument it was a proper zoom, giving your theory a higher probability. It could be a clever move from the Kumburgaz fellow, to just cut it inn between proper outdoor...

I am not sure @flarkey. The video's show zooming in at times, which would be hard to do with your theory. Also I think "using a wide fish-eye lens" is just not enough to show that effect. But, interesting theory nevertheless.

Agreeing with @Mendel. I always doubt witness "object size" "calculations". Not only because of the by experiment proven distance judging phenomena, but the premeditated assumptions.

Very good point. If there is one thing specific for UFO's then it the complete unpredictability of it. Unless of course, the military is in direct contact with our alien friends and got a copy of the mission.

That we cannot identify it, does not mean it is not identifiable. No need to bring in extraterrestrials in the equation.
