Explained: Bands of colored "particles" in sky photos [digital camera artifact]

So @Mick West , in the example above what is the blend doing? Replacing pixels with those of the underlying layer if they match a specific brightness/luminance range? My Photoshop skills aren't too advanced. It seemed to me that the camera was somehow corrupting pixels of a particular range...

Explained: Bands of colored "particles" in sky photos [digital camera artifact]

She has posted a link to the original pics: https://www.flickr.com/photos/rospix/sets/72157635717945213/ Zooming in on the originals it looks like some kind of digital noise: The EXIF data checks out OK. I don't think it has been tampered with: The Fujifilm S8100fd is a fairly decent...

Yes, her Flickr page disables downloading which also means you can't access the EXIF data from the originals.

Do contrails form around low level clouds? [Generally not]

Well here's a photo that a chemtrail believer sent to me on Twitter. I'd say that pretty conclusively shows that the trails (and the cirrus formed as they spread) are well above the clouds! And there are plenty of videos of contrails on YouTube, taken from airliners at high altitude. One...

Do contrails form around low level clouds? [Generally not]

This is off topic for this thread, but what you say is quite simply not true. What people refer to as "chemtrails" (in actual fact persistent contrails) are typically found above 30,000ft. This is easily tested using one of the several flight-tracking programs that are available.

Debunked: Crabzilla [Giant Crab Photoshopped into Bing Maps image]

I was in Whitstable just a couple of weeks ago. Shame I didn't know about this crab, or I would have kept an eye out (and bought an enormous loaf to make sandwiches with!) Anyway, here is a bit more from the creator of the image - although he doesn't actually admit to being the creator, he...

Debunked: Chemtrail Plane and Other Unlabeled Photos from Facebook etc.

Yes I spotted that just before you posted... For some reason neither Google Image Search nor Tineye finds photos on Metabunk.

Debunked: Chemtrail Plane and Other Unlabeled Photos from Facebook etc.

This set has just been shared with Look Up on Facebook: http://lovingenergies.net/pt/Exclusive-Leaked-Photos-of-Chemtrail-Dispersal-System/blog.htm Discussed here: https://www.metabunk.org/threads/exclusive-leaked-photos-of-chemtrail-dispersal-system.2772/

Explained: Bands of colored "particles" in sky photos [digital camera artifact]

It's possible, but I think it may be a weird camera artifact, perhaps overloading of the sensor in brightly sunlit regions of the contrails?

Debunked: High Bypass Turbofans do not make Contrails [actually they make more]

It is, but high-bypass engines produce persistent trails in conditions that older engines would not. (If you compare the charts for contrail formation in the opening post of this thread, you need lower RH for persistent trails at a given temperature with high-bypass engines than with low-bypass...

Explained: Bands of colored "particles" in sky photos [digital camera artifact]

What do you make of theses photos? Most of them are bog standard contrail and cloud photos, but recently she claims to have photographed "green particles". Clearly it's some kind of camera artifact (she admits it is not visible to the naked eye) but I am puzzled as to what causes this effect, if...

    Pre 1995 Persistent Contrail Archive

Some of the ones posted upthread may be available through Google News. The Times ones I just posted are not (freely) publicly available AFAIK, although public libraries may have them.

    Pre 1995 Persistent Contrail Archive

And one more, from The Sunday Times, May 2 1965 (a few weeks after the first test flights of the Concorde prototypes), expressing concerns about persistent contrails from high-altitude supersonic flight.

    Pre 1995 Persistent Contrail Archive

And another one. Unfortunately the scans are pretty poor, but persistent contrails preceding a depression are specifically mentioned in the cirro-stratus section. This is from The Sunday Times, August 28 1977.

More goodies from the Times archive. This exchange of letters is from 1944: an early sighting of halos in contrails.

    Pre 1995 Persistent Contrail Archive

I just found this in the archive of The Times from 1989. So the mainstream media was talking about persistent contrails, and their impact on cloud formation and climate, 25 years ago. Citation: The Times (London, England), Saturday, January 14, 1989; pg. 48; Issue 63291. The author was...

Debunked: Crabzilla [Giant Crab Photoshopped into Bing Maps image]

The photograph is an altered version of the Bing Maps aerial view. Bing Maps link: http://binged.it/1sMorR1 GIF comparison: All the boats and vehicles are in the same place. The photos are clearly identical, apart from the giant crustacean (and perhaps a bit of blurring at the top left).

Cold Fusion: This time.... independently verified.

Thanks for the link. I have downloaded the PDF and will have a proper read of it later. Rossi and Levi don't seem very trustworthy to me though, and that is an understatement! I don't consider anything carried out by Levi to be an "independent assessment" at all. Here's a nice summary of why...
