Is this a Chinese spy balloon?

"I seriously doubt that the balloon body released any shiny particles." Not shiny particles. Shreds of the fabric of the balloon. The shreds are white. As they flutter, they change shape and catch more or less of the sunlight. These are low resolution images. Because of these two factors...

Is this a Chinese spy balloon?

Not certain of the provenance of this image but it's identified as A satellite or reconnaissance plane in the sky of Ataq yesterday afternoon # Yemen. It appears to be an artist's concept, not a photo. Source: https://twitter.com/mbarksalh20/status/1517599179790561280

The debris field is 7 square miles, not 7 miles long.

Is this a Chinese spy balloon?

My naïve speculation: After the annular blast fragmentation warhead burst, the body of the missile was still largely intact. It looks as though the largely intact body of the missile went through the base of the balloon, while at least some of the shrapnel went through the body of the balloon...

Is this a Chinese spy balloon?

Something to consider.... The Sidewinder uses an annular blast fragmentation warhead. An explosive force blows metal fragments outward in all directions, in an annular, or ring-shaped, pattern. Shrapnel, in other words.

Is this a Chinese spy balloon?

It seems likely to me that it is a Spy Balloon. Something to consider when asking, "What sense does it make"? It might make little to no sense in a purely military or technical sense. It may be the pet project of an influential person. Or it may be a purely make-work project that has grown...

My knowledge of photo interpretation (as it was called at the time) stops at the end of WWII. Much effort was put into producing maps. But they were also looking for manmade changes in the landscape over time, to see what the enemy was up to. Aerial reconnaissance intelligence. So I assumed...

Wait a minute... Why would this be a video at all? Wouldn't it be a mosaic of individual still images? Did someone take a video of a display?

I'm aware that the aircraft was allegedly identified as a twin turbo-prop airplane, but considering the source, who knows? Also doesn't rule out a processing artifact. What does the 728FTt mean? Ditto 19403 and 26683? 26,683 - 19,403 = 7,280 wut? Mosul altitude above sea level is 732.

I think we've been too naïve and old-fashioned. I've been looking at info on the Internet specific to modern low altitude digital aerial photography. I think this is an artifact that was produced by the radiometric correction of images. Radiometric correction is also used for satellite images...
