Skinwalker Ranch Carriage House Lights and Bird on a Sunny Day

Off topic Vintage conventional wall oven (which needed to be vented) Or maybe an early microwave that replaced a gas oven? 1969 Amana Radar Range Vintage chest freezer My guess is that long ago - circa 1960/1970 - this old carriage house was used as a bunkhouse for laborers. Much...

Skinwalker Ranch Carriage House Lights and Bird on a Sunny Day

There are plenty of holes in that wall. It would be off to our right in this view and not visible in this photo. Edit: Looking again... Are those holes or splashes of light shining on the far wall? Doesn't matter, though.

It couldn't be that window high in the structure, though. The angles aren't right. We can see the underside of the rafters. The camera is also to our left of the center line of the carriage house. Maybe another window or more likely just a hole lower down in the wall that we can't see in that...

Skinwalker Ranch Carriage House Lights and Bird on a Sunny Day

That could make sense. They would want to have the most complete view possible of the interior. Having the camera outside the structure would do that. If this were so, the spider silk could be part of a web in the window frame. The threads could be fixed at both ends to the frame. Having the...

Skinwalker Ranch Carriage House Lights and Bird on a Sunny Day

I'm confident that what we are not seeing are illuminated worms. -The vertical movements don't make sense. How could they be bouncing up and down like that? -The lateral movements don't make much sense either. If we assume that these are worms hanging from the rafters... That's a lot of...

Skinwalker Ranch Carriage House Lights and Bird on a Sunny Day

Yes, I see what you mean. If we assume that the silk thread has to be more or less directly backlit, then the sun would have to be shining into the lens as well, and there would be glare. But how much is known about what happens to light inside a silk thread? Does it have to be backlit for...

Skinwalker Ranch Carriage House Lights and Bird on a Sunny Day

Do they say that the bird was startled by the approach and disappearance of the lights? Judging by track record I'd expect they would. It's the kind of post hoc fallacy they'd push.

Skinwalker Ranch Carriage House Lights and Bird on a Sunny Day

I've realized that the silk lines may be fixed at both ends to a hood/sunshield on the camera itself. In this scenario the air current is blowing from our right to our left. The lines are bowing to our left and vibrating. When the air current is blowing more strongly the highlights move to...

Skinwalker Ranch Carriage House Lights and Bird on a Sunny Day

Looking again, the highlights do go slightly off vertical, and I think that correlates with whether the highlights are moving to our left or to our right. What do you think, everyone?

Something that needs to be worked out: How do the highlights both stay mostly vertical? In your demonstration, the fishing line is diagonal and the highlight is diagonal as well. The highlights in your silk line examples also follow the direction of the silk lines. This suggests that the...

Las Vegas UFO - Lights in Clouds Above The Strip [Light Pillar Map]

So there is a video showing a reflection from the Luxor. The MGM is distinctive because it's the only hotel lit with green lights. That's a legacy from the 1990's. The original theme of the hotel was based on MGM's most iconic movie - The Wizard of Oz. The Emerald City, get it?

Las Vegas UFO - Lights in Clouds Above The Strip [Light Pillar Map]

Beautiful. And the recent display here in Vegas was only a few miles from my home. I wish I'd seen it. Another piece of the puzzle: How could there be ice crystals in the air when the temperature in Las Vegas at the time was well above 32 degrees F.? Answer: It's a bit puzzling why this...

Las Vegas UFO - Lights in Clouds Above The Strip [Light Pillar Map]

I've realized we may be confused about what "intersecting" might mean. -Does it mean two spotlight beams intersecting? -Or does it mean a single spotlight beam "intersecting" with the point in the sky where we see the flash?

The answer is there are millions of separate ice crystals. But are you being combative?

No it doesn't. But it's a unit with separate spotlights moving at the same time, so it might seem like that happens.

Someone started that spotlights intersecting thing, but please forget about it. These reflections were produced by flat plate shaped ice crystals in a layer of ice fog above the city. https://atoptics.co.uk/halo/orplate.htm . First, let's talk about when light from a strong light source -...

Las Vegas UFO - Lights in Clouds Above The Strip [Light Pillar Map]

Another piece of the puzzle: Why don't other nearby hotels show up? For example why doesn't the red Adventure Dome behind Circus Circus show? It's next to Resort World, after all. Or the Palazzo next to the Wynn? Answer: Only powerful beams pointed straight upward are clearly visible. Not...

Las Vegas UFO - Lights in Clouds Above The Strip [Light Pillar Map]

The view is mucher wider angle than I was thinking. It's like a miles wide mirror. Amazing. As for the flashes... Think of the spotlight at Sapphire as a flashlight in your bathroom mirror. You can always see it, but when you point it at the mirror just right you get the sudden bright...

Those are specular reflections from the flat surface of the ice crystals, when the angles are just right.
