A "cruise missile type of thing" spotted by AA2292

Cruise missiles fly at very low ground hugging altitudes though.

A "cruise missile type of thing" spotted by AA2292

Um I was just wondering what that plane flying past the cockpit at those speeds and altitude differentials would look like from the perspective of the flight crew.

A "cruise missile type of thing" spotted by AA2292

At that range would it appear to flash past?

A "cruise missile type of thing" spotted by AA2292

How accurate/frequently updates are the timings/positions for the plane? Could 9 mins be in a margin of error for a plane at 500kts intercepting a 380kts one?

Aguadilla Infrared Footage of 'UFOs' - Probably Hot Air Wedding Lanterns

Hard to tell if it's that translation but the Go Fast analysis seems a bit off. Object is not hot, it's cold and they seem to ignore parallax and camera rotation to determine a fast object, they do seem to get the altitude correct. Go Fast is a good litmus test of analyses as it has relatively...

Balloon-like UFO Photo from The Debrief

Yup see all Mick's work on showing how we often fail at estimating distance when we are without context clues or have made a wrong assumption about the object in question.

Looks like a flare from a 4 blade aperture diaphragm.

GIMBAL Video: Simulating the ATFLIR Tracking and Gimbal Rotation

You almost need to start with showing the solving of the ATFLIR image issue (presenting a stable tracked zoomed image of a moving target filmed from a moving viewpoint to the MFD) so all the reasons for why the system is designed like that are apparent. Mick has done that in part with some of...

GIMBAL Video: Simulating the ATFLIR Tracking and Gimbal Rotation

I'm just thinking about if we were to do a video with a breakdown using the glare effect might be seen as "cheating"

GIMBAL Video: Simulating the ATFLIR Tracking and Gimbal Rotation

Are you keyframing the camera to simulate the gimbal restriction as it crossed 0 degrees? I tried to do something similar for GIMBAL in Blender but my skills were lacking. Very interested in playing with your Blender file, i did some Go Fast simulations back when we were demonstrating the...

GIMBAL Video: Simulating the ATFLIR Tracking and Gimbal Rotation

Sorry if I missed something but how are you actually simulating the glare and and decoration mechanism in your video? I'm interested in how you did that. I would be interesting to have a "pilot view" camera as well the pod view camera with glare.

Judging Size and Distance of Unidentified Objects

If it were a fighter jet, would not Fravor have recognised the object, and thus known the size etc? The general point is the object he describes is featureless and novel and thus his perception of it's size and movements are subject to a much higher likelyhood of error.

Avionics System Technician Discusses FLIR Targeting Pod's Tracking and Glare

I think what sticks out the most is the things that are seemingly intentionally misrepresented by the pilots, the sharpness mask, the go fast video, the loss of tracking, the 99 range with no target designation that would provide a range. The rest of their testimonies are just called into...

San Diego Silver Sphere Videoed By Rick Ybarra, 2014 [Probably a Ballon Model]

I doubt there was any attempt just the camera lowering the shutter speed in aperture priority mode, the max ISO on the camera is 1600 so the shutter speed had to go down to compensate for the lack of light.

San Diego Silver Sphere Videoed By Rick Ybarra, 2014 [Probably a Ballon Model]

Don't even need to paint it, this link shows commercially available spherical silver balloons https://www.signatureballoons.co.uk/21-Jumbo-Orbz-Silver-Foil-Balloon-1/ https://www.signatureballoons.co.uk/30-inch-Metallic-Silver-Latex-Balloons-2/ Sizes are also match for the estimated object...

San Diego Silver Sphere Videoed By Rick Ybarra, 2014 [Probably a Ballon Model]

Thanks those images confirm that they were taken at full res of the camera meaning the estimate of object size based on focus distance is at least not way off. The out of focus shots do not give a sensible value meaning the AF did not have a lock. I saw the "knot" as well, it's in the right...

Is this the full res JPG from the Nikon camera, do we have the actual file?

Also helpful would be the uncropped file from the Nikon digital camera.

San Diego Silver Sphere Videoed By Rick Ybarra, 2014 [Probably a Ballon Model]

The extended EXIF data is really useful The camera is a Nikon D80 with a 1.5x crop factor and a sensor resolution of 3872 x 2592 pixels (10MP.) The lens appears to be a Nikon fit Tamron 18-270mm which has a full frame equivalent focal length of 405mm on this 1.5x crop camera. The maximum focal...
