Flat Earth Theory Debunked by Short Flights (QF27 & QF28) From Australia to South America

Not everything, no - but in this case, because you are talking about specific people, you should quote them again, or link to their words. If their buddies direct them to your post about them, it's pretty unlikely that they (or their buddies) will search the thread to see if you previously...

    Nathan Oakley's Flat Earth "Debates".

Here's a video that's fairly typical of the flat earth reaction to Oakley and Mick's 'debate' (from 0.50 to 2.00): Basically they're claiming the whole thing as a big victory.

    Nathan Oakley's Flat Earth "Debates".

Have they presented any formulae for this belief? For example: let's say Anthony Riley is at the top of a 1000-feet tall building on the flat earth. 10 miles away there is a 500 feet tall building, and 20 miles away there are two buildings, one 250 feet tall and one 1000 feet tall. What angle...

Flat Earth Theory Debunked by Short Flights (QF27 & QF28) From Australia to South America

"Ridiculous" is a bit strong in this instance. Maybe there were less confrontational ways the point could have been made? It will be a shame to lose someone who has made valuable contributions, and would no doubt do so in the future, because of a quibble over posting guidelines.

    Nathan Oakley's Flat Earth "Debates".

According to a post at tfes.org: If you put the explanation in 'Earth not a Globe' into a formula, you get d = h/tan(1/60), where h is the eye level with respect to sea level and d is the distance to the horizon. Let's say eye level is at 2 meters, you get something like 6.9 km. On a globe you...

Flat Earth Theory Debunked by Short Flights (QF27 & QF28) From Australia to South America

Seems that this was true for tape, but not for digital: Digital recorders have enough storage for 25 hours of flight data but only two hours of cockpit voice recording, which is recorded over itself in a loop. The CVRs track the crew's interactions with each other and air traffic control, but...

Flat Earth Theory Debunked by Short Flights (QF27 & QF28) From Australia to South America

An additional southern hemisphere flight: Luanda - Sao Paolo - Luanda TAAG Angola Airlines DT747/746 Departs Luanda every day except Tuesday and Thursday Departs Sao Paolo every day except Wednesday and Friday So I make that 84 direct flights every week, and more on occasion. Plus...

    Nathan Oakley's Flat Earth "Debates".

Why would there be a hidden amount on the flat earth? How would you calculate the distance to the horizon? You could do a joke one, I suppose: just use RE math and have it give you answers to questions like "distance to horizon-obscuring haze", etc. Question to all: if you had to enter into an...

    Nathan Oakley's Flat Earth "Debates".

The other one that sticks out was when he was going on about "the earth magically changing its size and shape" (because of variation in radius at different latitudes). It must be bloody awful trying to explain things while someone's screeching at you and being unbelievably unreasonable.

I was thinking the best way for them to understand that they don't need to account for perspective in a curvature calculator - i.e., that they can use the actual size of an object, not the apparent size - would be to encourage them to make a scale model. They can measure angles and distances...

How to Prove Satellite Images are Real - Ground Truth

I was looking for a good colour image of the Volcan de Fuego in Guatemala. Tried GOES-West (visible) but they're black and white. This article has images from the Suomi NPP satellite: Volcano erupted around 1800UTC on June 3rd.

Patience of a saint. I had some interactions with Nathan Oakley a couple of years back and - There's absolutely nothing I can type right now that won't contravene the politeness policy.

Debunked: Eric Dubay "Flat Earth Proof" #13

That's very interesting. Myth 4 is also relevant to the above: Myth 4: ‘There are exact mathematical formulae to change between coordinate systems’ Exact formulae only apply in the realm of perfect geometry – not in the real world of coordinated points on the ground. The ‘known coordinates’ of...

Debunked: Eric Dubay "Flat Earth Proof" #13

One thing I've noticed in looking at Biot and Arago's coordinates is that all the ones I've done - which is only 6 or 7 - are located to the northwest of the google maps coordinates. Not sure what that means.

Debunked: Eric Dubay "Flat Earth Proof" #13

Nice one. Love it. Now in testing I find it needs a little fine tuning - for Arago and Biot were using the Paris meridian rather than the Greenwich meridian. The Paris meridian is at longitude 2°20′14.03″ east - or 2.337231 in modern money. If we subtract the converted longitude figure from...

Debunked: Eric Dubay "Flat Earth Proof" #13

Question: on page 9 of "Mémorial du Dépôt..." the longitudes and latitudes are given for Bartolo, Camp Vell, Montgo, and other observation points - but they're not using the system that we use now: I'm assuming there's a way to figure out how these relate to the figures we use now. Anybody know?

Debunked: Eric Dubay "Flat Earth Proof" #13

I posted the above on another flat earth forum and was met with a multitude of strange and preposterous objections. À la Wallace, if I'd been a smarter man I wouldn't have got involved - but I'm not, and I felt compelled to prove that the summit in question was indeed Bartolo. Hence the...
