Need Debunking: Heritage Foundation claims that condoms are 69% effective at preventing HIV, among other claims

This is infuriating me because that "therefore" is completely unsupported and probably wrong, and it's especially rich coming from an organisation promoting "abstinence-only" sex ed. Their idea of sex ed involves leaving kids in the dark about how to deal with STDs, which seems like the...

Apollo 12 photo: Is this censorship?

I'd expect the obscured areas to be shown on other pictures, and to be also visible telescopically from Earth.

Need Debunking: Heritage Foundation claims that condoms are 69% effective at preventing HIV, among other claims

Translation: "If you don't always use condoms, you have a higher chance of transmitting HIV". If you always use them, they're 95% effective.

Help to debunk: 737 flies backward

If you have some time on your hand, and a helper, you could do a double video: one video showing the illusion, the other showing the same aircraft at the same time from a stationary camera. If there's a radio on with the sound caught on the videos, they can be synchronized.

Claim: Sweating can release a useful amount of toxins/toxicants from the body

That study also does not compare intake to excretion. "detox" suggests an impact on toxin levels in the body, but if it's not enough to matter either way, it'd still be placebo.

Claim: Heritage Foundation article asserts that Sex Ed programs encourage porn use

Well, "inferences and assumptions in science mean nothing without proper testing" seems like a pretty good response to me. Personally, decoupling the decisions "do I want to have sex with this person" from "do I want to conceive a child with this person" through contraceptives seems to provide...

    Error message while posting

Here's what I would try: 1. Copy your text to a text editor and save it as a general precaution. 2. Let the browser reload the page, then try again (if you are still shown as logged in). 3. If that did not work, try to post only a part of your text at first, and then extend it by editing the...

    Calculating and visualizing Gimbal angles.

The clouds move because the observer jet turns, and there's parallax; that's not part of this gimbal sim at all. @Edward Current 's Blender sim shows the clouds well.

New potential hoaxed/LARP "Navy FLIR" video

The embedding works for me, same as for youtube videos, tweets, and imgur posts.

    Calculating and visualizing Gimbal angles.

What is the green dot showing me? I'd like to know where the ATFLIR head is looking, aka the target of pod roll/pid pitch without the "fine tune" mirrors.

    COVID-19 Coronavirus current events

The list reads like a who's who of disinfo peddlers, and that includes the Senator. It looks like it's streaming on OAN now. I expect they didn't get any of the "invited" mainstream scientists? This'll help the virus tremendously.

    COVID-19 Coronavirus current events

If you can get the reproduction rate of an infectious disease below 1 for long enough (globally) and exterminate its non-human reservoirs, you can eradicate that disease. A high enough global vaccination rate would have achieved this before Omicron. In January 2021, this still looked like a...

Claim: Ancient Cultures inherited Structures and Artefacts from Pre-Historic Lost Civilizations with Advanced Manufacturing Capabilities

If the ancienty did something I don't understand, the logical conclusion is "I'm nowhere near as intelligent as they". However, if I believe that I'm the pinnacle of creation, that conclusion is unacceptable; and therefore, to maintain that belief, these achievements must have been accomplished...

Hunga Tonga Volcano Eruption and Tsunamis

ah, just the observations, without a comparison simulation The AE map has different scales at Tonga in terms of E-W vs. N-S, so it'd start out looking like an ellipse already.

    COVID-19 Coronavirus current events

I'm not sure I follow. Are you asking whether the FDA would approve a vaccine that was only good at reducing asymptomatic infections, i.e. that would only protect people who aren't actually sick?

Claim: Sweating can release a useful amount of toxins/toxicants from the body

The problem with many of these toxins is that they're only toxic when they're "on the move", i.e. when they actually reach organs they can damage. Many of them are simply stored away harmlessly (e.g. in fat cells, until you go on a diet). If you "wring out" the fat cells under your skin, that...

    COVID-19 Coronavirus current events

vs the control group = unvaccinated people The choice of criterium (infection, symptomatic infection, severd disease) is up to the manufacturer. Either laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 or laboratory-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection is an acceptable primary endpoint for a COVID-19 vaccine efficacy...

    COVID-19 Coronavirus current events

I haven't looked at my country comparisons this week because I was really waiting for sustained turnarounds that we don't quite yet see (except SA); everyone has more cases than ever before and still less deaths than January 2021 (except Australia), but daily death tolls are still rising because...

    COVID-19 Coronavirus current events

Nothing in it is really surprising, but it's nice to see it supported by multiple sources (even though the numbers are not very precise yet), and written up well (i.e. for the interested layperson). For talking to vaccine-hesitant people, this paragraph may be helpful: That level—about 50%...
