Even if you think the world's flat your brain knows different

Faraway mountains "go higher" when the observer goes higher, in both models; that's how eye level works with perspective. For a "flat intuition" (which we all have), the different size of the green area usually indicates a camera height change. Try it on your kitchen table: how big is is the...

This is more current, but doesn't distinguish by vaccination status: Omicron symptoms In order to take a first look at the potential symptom profile of Omicron, this week ZOE conducted an initial analysis of symptom data from positive cases in London. London was selected due to the higher...

    COVID-19 Coronavirus current events

Good question! The latest results could mean that “the virus establishes a very local infection in the upper airways and has less chance to go and wreak havoc in the lungs”, Ott says. It's more like the common cold and less like an inflammation, especially early on, which means less chance of...

I don't think that is true. The pressure gradient is caused by gravity, and you should be able to measure it in any container (e.g. in a walk-in freezer with a Samsung galaxy phone) as well as outside.

Even if you think the world's flat your brain knows different

We intuitively feel that both pictures show the same scene, because that's how reality works: we move, the landscape stays. But what actually happened was that the scene was changed: the floor was "bent" to match the globe vs. FE.

Even if you think the world's flat your brain knows different

Yes, you can. The difference between FE render and globe render is that objects get moved down according to curvature, without changing the camera position or the distance of the object from the camera. This does not change their size (actual or apparent)! Almost every VR world that exists...

Need Debunking: ONS data shows Covid Vaccinated Teens are 3 times more likely to die than Unvaccinated Teens.

Thank you for confirming my point. As a rough estimate, a week of 3 million people aged 15-19 is ~60,000 person-years, so an average of 11 deaths per week amounts to 1 death per 5000 person-years approximately. The mortality of the unvaccinated is about half of that (1 death per 10,000), while...

Claim: There is no 97% climate consensus

The zigzag "temperature anomaly" trend line is so unusual that I feel confident it's a deliberate attempt to mislead. No source using this uncritically is trustworthy, either because they're malicious, or because they have no clue (or both).

Needs debunking: High altitude flight video with no curvature

This is also informative in another way because the smaller the field of view is, the less curvature you see: zoom in on the horizon and it'll look straight at any altitude that a re-entry vehicle is going to reach.

I ran across another short analysis that I agree with. The analysis repeats my points about the authors being anti-regulation economists and the paper not being peer-reviewed, and it goes more in-depth about a problem I only hinted at, which is data selection. In the paper itself, they use...

The perspective in these images has not been manipulated. Play around a bit with Walter Bislin's online Earth curvature calculator to see that, it switches between flat and curved with a button and renders the scene accordingly.

Yep. If I hand seniors $100 bills and younger people $50 bills, it still pays for them to get in line. I noted that. I also noted that the "boosted" rate is near zero for both, and that it's lower than the "vaxxed but not boosted" line for both, so it looks like there is another significant...
