Claim: NASA cuts ISS livestream after "Millennium Falcon UFO" enters the frame

Hypothesis: Maybe the camera was looking at a sunrise or sunset -- I'm guessing we're seeing one in the OP because Earth is only lit at the edge; and obviously something bright must cause the lens reflection, which can happen by the sunlight entering the lens at an oblique angle. So then it's...

Debunked: Biden in "Fake" Oval Office

This is a forum, and you're a registered user. If you don't agree that a topic is debunked, you can voice any questions you might have by replying to the topic. I see you did not do that here, so I assume you agree that this topic is properly debunked? Metabunk concerns itself with evidence for...

Debunked: Biden signing "Blank" Executive Orders

"There's something I don't understand" proves "there is a conspiracy to keep the truth from us". People with a successful science education and/or an open mind know that not understanding things is the natural state of the world, and that it doesn't take a conspiracy to bring that about.

    COVID-19 Coronavirus current events

You're of course correct in that a virus has no metabolism, so it could be considered "not alive" by that test. But an intact SARS-NCoV-2 virus can reproduce once it reaches a cell with an ACE2-receptor. To be safe against infection, this capability needs to be destroyed: the virus needs to...

2020 US Election - Current Events

Yeah, I just stumbled on that as well. Article 14 covers the presidential election: Representatives shall be apportioned among the several States according to their respective numbers, counting the whole number of persons in each State, excluding Indians not taxed. But when the right to vote...

2020 US Election - Current Events

Ok. Now I'm wondering why the US is calling itself a democracy at all. The House of Representatives shall be composed of Members chosen every second Year by the People of the several States [..] That's the only bit I could find where "the people" actually have a right to vote. While that is...

2020 US Election - Current Events

I checked New York. NY had Early voting for the first time this year and apparently misjudged demand. But there are signs they tried to address the problem: The Board of Elections decided to allow one extra polling site at Marymount Manhattan. It is an alternate poll site for the people who've...

2020 US Election - Current Events

Voter turnout in Germany (for federal elections) has always been above 70% (of potential voters). ( https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wahlbeteiligung ) Voter turnout in the US (for presidential elections) has rarely topped 60% in the past 100 years (...

Please debunk the argument, then. Cite a few laws from these packages that make it easier to vote.

2020 US Election - Current Events

This is more like 2022 election news, but for those who like to ponder constitutional issues... Source: https://twitter.com/AriBerman/status/1357378533803360259 Source: https://twitter.com/AriBerman/status/1357381036674609152 I've talked in this forum about how the House GOP reps'...

Explained: Inaguration Photos from Different Angles Show Different Backgrounds.

I've posted about this last year in the Covid-19 forum (see there for bigger pictures and a different link). You can see how zoom lenses compress distances, misleading the intuition. More pictures and credits (these pictures have been republished quite a few times) at...

Claim: Admiral Byrd's "secret diary" proves hollow earth

I found it in a 1998 typescript that dates the "expanded edition" to 1990. Google Books asserts the "platform-like conveyance" passage is also in a 1979 publication, but I wasn't able to view the text itself. (The trick was to restrict the search to 1990 or earlier.)

Explained: Exactly 5.55555556% (1/18) of votes for Trump across multiple precincts [Cherry Picked, Expected Ratios]

The main vehicle for manipulation here is the deliberate lack of comparison. Nobody has any idea what these numbers should be, so it is easy to point at some and say, look how unusual these are. A trustworthy analysis takes data from past elections and compares. What did the numbers look like...

Explained: Exactly 5.55555556% (1/18) of votes for Trump across multiple precincts [Cherry Picked, Expected Ratios]

12 ties in 2652 precincts is 1 tie per 221 precincts, or (roughly) one tie per year the US exist. Ties in Georgia are less common than US presidential elections (there were only 59 so far)!

Explained: Exactly 5.55555556% (1/18) of votes for Trump across multiple precincts [Cherry Picked, Expected Ratios]

When you have a LARGE number of precincts (hundreds all over Georgia, I believe), and then pick a time early in the count when totals are small, you're going to get equal numbers with some probability. It's like how it's hard to win the lottery, but someone usually does because you have so many...
